I recently had a migraine for over 2 days and a friend of mine suggested a Lomi-Lomi massage.

I must admit, I had no idea what to expect but I thought I would give anything a try to feel better. I had already had a full day off work with the pain. I am a Finance manager for a billion $ business and this time of year is not ideal to be having sick days.

The whole experience was one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys the benefits of a massage. It is the most wonderful type of massage I have ever had and all in the comfort of my own home, which to me makes it even more special as I didn’t have to take myself anywhere to enjoy the experience.

Stone was amazing at being able to create a calm space for me to relax in during the massage and it truly was like being in heaven. I wish it was something I could do every day to relax and unwind; it is definitely something I will regularly incorporate into my life as a way to relax and rejuvenate.

My migraine eased over the next day and I am now back at work and much more focused and relaxed after taking my friend’s advice and trying it out.

My occupation as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher takes me into challenging cross-cultural environments. Working with kids can be highly demanding especially those in conflict between differing cultures yet it was the general domestic holiday tasks - cleaning the bath in particular that was 'the straw that broke the camels back' which lead to my first experience. I was physically and mentally exhausted and still in remission following breast cancer.

While I had no background knowledge of lomi, my expectations were based entirely upon the sensory image - like a Dutch masterpiece where the eye is drawn towards the focal point of light. I was asked to focus my thoughts on what I hoped to achieve.

I hope language can convey the essence of the experience. It was unique - an overwhelming sensation, of the tactile, powerful and delicate at the same time; unconventional, channelling energy; enveloping, lifting, gliding and sliding as though in a dance. A lot like a dance: invigorating, kinaesthetic, sublime.

What I enjoy most is the unexpected - each massage is a new experience.
